Have A Question?

When uploading your own designs please follow the specifications below. Thanks!

File Format: We accept the following file formats: PDF. Utilize one PDF for the front and one PDF for the back when it applies.

Resolution: All file formats must have a minimum of 350 dpi (dot per inch) resolution at 100% of the final print size. Images designed for the web typically cannot be used for printing as they have a low screen resolution of 72 dpi. Print images need to be created at a minimum of 350 dpi or there will be a substantial drop in the image quality. There are a few products such as banners, posters and yard signs that can be uploaded at 150dpi at 100% final print size. For more information on resolution click here.

Color Mode: All color artwork and/or images must be provided in CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) color mode. All black & white artwork and/or images must be provided in grayscale color mode. We cannot guarantee 100% color match. We are able to match your color up to 85%, so there might be a 15% shift in color when your product is printed. We recommend limited usage of blues and reds, simply because they are the hardest colors to match. Our blank templates are set to best color mode options for print. Click here to download blank templates from our blank template page.

Bleed: Please build your print-ready digital files by adding the bleed listed below to each dimension. For example, a 11" x 8.5" flyer with full bleed should be 11.125" x 8.625". Our blank templates have the bleed zone, cutting zone and graphic zones set. Click here to download blank templates from our blank template page.

Fonts: Be sure to embed your fonts or create outlines.  For more information on embedding fonts click here.

File Size Limits:  Refer to list below.

We utilize recycled paper for some of our products.

This is how it effects the environment and your cost:

  • SAVING THE TREES_Recycling paper preserves trees and forests. Every ton of recycled paper saves about 17 trees. Recycled paper serves as an environmentally friendly resource for paper manufacturers, saving costs and energy.
  • REDUCED GREENHOUSE GAS_According to the EPA, recycling one ton of paper can reduce greenhouse gas levels by one metric ton of carbon equivalent.
  • SAVING ENERGY_Recycling one ton of paper saves energy equivalent to the energy needed to power the average U.S. home for six months and saves about 7,000 gallons of water. Making recycled paper into new paper products saves energy and water because the number of energy-intensive steps and processes that use water are reduced.

We utilize Soy based Ink on our business cards and other products.

This is how it benefits the environment and your cost:

  • BETTER QUALITY_Soy inks have a tendency to produce brighter and sharper images than regular inks. This is because soybean oil is naturally clearer than most petroleum-based ink. With soy ink, you can give your logo a vibrant look that’s just not possible otherwise.
  • LESS INK_The price of soy ink is comparable to petroleum-based ink. But since printing with soy-based ink produces especially high-intensity colors, it often requires less ink than conventional printing. This means that with soy-based printing, you’re getting the most out of your money.
  • HEALTHIER_Using soy-based ink is great for the environment when compared to other inks; it’s particularly notable for its low levels of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s), less than one fifth of the amount produced by petroleum-based inks. VOC’s are pollutants which evaporate in sunlight, and are unhealthy for both the environment and human beings. Using soy ink ultimately produces less air pollution and health hazards.
  • BIODEGRADABLE_When recycling paper, any printed ink has to be removed first. Paper printed with soy-based ink has a faster rate of dirt removal during the de-inking process, which makes it easy to recycle. Additionally, soy ink is more than four times more biodegradable than standard ink, so even paper that isn’t recycled will have less environmental impact.
  • LESS ENERGY_Naturally, soy ink is made from soybeans, a renewable resource (unlike standard petroleum). What’s more, it’s actually made from a byproduct of soybean farming. This means that no new crops need to be harvested to create soy-based ink. Also, soybeans require very little irrigation and only a small amount of energy to cultivate.

We are proud to offer these options for you. The choices we make today effect our future and the future of our children.

dpi = Dots Per Inch            ppi = Pixels Per Inch            dpi = ppi.

They are one and the same. For your benefit we tried to label everything in this site as dpi. It is more commonly utilized in the print industry.

Now for the fun stuff:

You will notice that we say use 350dpi minimum for your graphics or images. It is what we want but maybe a bit confusing to you. In a nutshell we want graphics that look great so that you are happy with your final product.

Lets say you have a picture that is 2290ppi/dpi x 2362ppi/dpi.  The file size is 917kb. Here is the example:

Picture of man at 2290ppi x 2362ppi

Nice graphic right? When I loaded it into Illustrator (Ai) the image size was 31.8506" x 32.8506". That is well within the hight range of printing for a 24" x 72" banner. But is it good enough? Let's find out.

The basic math on figuring the actual ppi/dpi is this:

Divide the # of pixels by the # of inches.

In this case (2290ppi/dpi divided by  31.8506") and (2362ppi/dpi divided by 32.8506").

Guess what, this graphic is only 72ppi/dpi and not even close to the 350dpi we asked you to utilize.

Is it a good graphic to use? Yes, it is!

The overall height  of 31+is well above the height for the banner that is 24" and the quality is excellent.

Now, Our Banner templates are at 1/10th scale so a 24" x 72"" banner is actually 2.4" x 7.2" in template form. When you shrink down this graphic the 72ppi/dpi increases to scale and the quality would only get better. So now you have a quality image. When you save it as a PDF as we suggest you now have a crisp design that we can upscale easily to actual size.

It's all very confusing on the software end so I won't bore you with it.

Anyway, the end result after adding a little feather, some borders and text is a 31.3 MB PDF that looks like this:

We got what we needed and you got what you wanted.

Example of 350dpi to 72dpiResolution is also known as dpi (dots per inch) or ppi (pixels per inch). It indicates the number of colored dots or pixels that make up one image. The higher the dots per inch/pixels per inch, the greater the resolution and the clearer the resulting final print will be.

In order for an image to print correctly, all file formats must be submitted at a minimum resolution of 350 dpi at 100% of the final print size. When file resolution is lower than 350 dpi, the final print will have a substantial drop in the image quality. For signage, please submit files with a minimum resolution of 150 dpi.

Our Designs in our Design Studio are at a high quality of 450dpi minimum. Most are 720dpi.

A resolution of 350 dpi means 350 dots per every inch in the design.

High-quality images can be obtained from:

  • High-resolution stock photography
  • High-quality scanned images
  • Digital cameras with a high quality of 2.4 mega pixels or more set at highest quality.
  • DO NOT take any images from the Internet, because most images you will find on the web are protected by copyright laws, and these images are not high resolution

Monitor resolution is much lower than the resolution of printers, so just because an image looks sharp on the screen, doesn't mean it will print well.

If purchasing an image from a royalty-free website, please make sure that you choose a high-resolution image of 350 dpi or greater.

What are embedded fonts?

Embedding a font means storing your font information in the file so that when your file is opened on a different computer, the fonts do not vary in appearance. If your fonts are not embedded, a different font may be substituted for your document. To prevent these variations, embed all your fonts in PDF files.

How do I prepare my fonts and files?

Please follow the following steps before you submit your files.

  • Fonts must be embedded in PDF files. (Some fonts have copyright restrictions and will not embed in PDF Files.)
  • Embed all images and outline text in Illustrator files.
  • Flatten all layers when working in Photoshop

When creating a file with a vector-based software such as Illustrator, follow these steps to outline fonts:

  • Select "Type"
  • Select "Create Outlines"

When trying to outline fonts in Photoshop, simply flatten the image.

The Bleed Zone is the extra margin on a print product that is meant to be trimmed off when the product is trimmed to its final size.

The Cutting Zone, or the trim line, is where the product will be trimmed to its final size.

The Graphic Zone is the area where all the critical elements (text, images, logos, etc.) must be placed, so that they are not trimmed off when the product is trimmed to the final size.

Utilize our Templates when creating your designs as they have all the correct Bleed Zones, Cutting Zones and Graphic Zones already on them.

Guidelines and Zones

What about borders on my artwork?

Borders are not recommended due to cutting shifts. If your product is not trimmed exactly on the trimming line, borders may appear uneven. We don’t want that for you so why risk it.

Most people are surprised at how well their job matches what they see. But because of wide differences in monitor calibration and the different technologies used, some printed colors may not exactly match the colors on your specific monitor.

Here's Why:

Your monitor displays in RGB (Red, Green, Blue) but the printing process uses CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black).

RGB/CMYK Example

For people who are uploading your designs:

We require that you provide us with print-ready digital files in CMYK color mode. Provide all black and white artwork in grayscale color mode. We do not accept any other color mode as they will not produce optimal printing results.

You will have more control over the appearance of your printed piece if you convert all of the images from RGB to CMYK before converting to PDF and uploading them to us. We want you to be happy, so please, take the time to prepare your file properly. We cannot be responsible for colors when your upload is not converted. Even though monitors always use RGB to display colors, the colors you see on your monitor will more closely match the final printed piece if you are designing them in CMYK.

How to switch to CMYK mode on your computer:

Photoshop - Convert RGB files into CMYK in Photoshop by simply clicking on Image > Mode > CMYK.

Illustrator - Convert RGB files into CMYK in Illustrator by simply clicking File > Document Color Mode > CMYK Color.

How to set your CMYK color Profile for optimal results?

For optimal printing results you should select the CMYK - GRACol2006_Coated1v2.icc color profile to ensure your final printed product matches your design.

Photoshop - Edit > Color Settings > Set to Coated GRACol2006.

Illustrator - Edit > Color Settings > Click Advanced Mode and set CMYK to Coated GRACol2006.

What is grayscale color mode?

Grayscale color mode, also known as black and white color mode, is composed of two colors: black and white. It is used to reproduce an image with different shades of grey.

What is Rich Black?

A computer monitor represents only one form of black. In print, there are several ways to represent black, including "rich black". Rich black is a darker, deeper black that combines a percentage of all the four CMYK inks. The values to create rich black for coated stocks are: C = 30, M = 30, Y = 30, and K = 100. The values to create rich black for uncoated stocks are: C = 20, M = 20, Y = 20, and K = 100. For gray densities, we recommend that the file have the following color values: C=10, M=10, Y=10. For the K value, anything under 100 would be considered a gray.

How to match color in our Design Studio to color in your Logo or any color you want?

It’s pretty simple really. What you need to do is open the logo in your design program and sample the color you want from it. Transfer the CMYK settings to the advanced color section for any of the items you want to change the color on. (Such as: Text, Shape, Background, etc…) It will save it so that you can use it for the rest of your design.

For people who are uploading your designs:

You will have more control over the appearance of your printed piece if you convert all of the images from RGB to CMYK before converting to PDF and uploading them to us. We want you to be happy, so please, take the time to prepare your file properly. We cannot be responsible for colors when your upload is not converted. Even though monitors always use RGB to display colors, the colors you see on your monitor will more closely match the final printed piece if you are designing them in CMYK.
